MARLOW BOUNCE BACK FROM MONEYFIELDS DEFEAT

Blues inflict first defeat of the season on Hartley Wintney.

Having lost for the first time this season just 2 days earlier Marlow found themselves facing newly-promoted opponents still unbeaten after their own bright start on a very hot Bank Holiday afternoon at Oak Tree Road. The Blues came into the game missing both Kelvin Bossman and Kameron English though suspensions but were able to include Jordan Brown for the first time this season and made the better start to the proceedings.
The visitors were grateful to keeper Paul Strudley early on in making a couple of good saves to keep the Blues at bay - the first o0f these was in the 9th minute when he held a sharp header from Calam Gallimore on his line following a corner from Charlie Samuel from the right and the next came some 8 minutes later when saving from a Jordan Lee-Brown effort, again following a corner.
In between though Marlow had found the net with Allen Bossman curling a ball into the top corner of the visitors goal in the 12th minute to put the home side ahead - a lead they never looked like relinquishing throughout the game.
This was increased when Charlie Samuel was fouled just before the half-hour and the inevitable penalty followed with Chris Ovenden (making his 201st appearance) stepped up to coolly send Strudley the wrong way with the Wintney keeper at full stretch 5 minutes before the break to keep out another curler from Bossman and the deficit at just 2 as the teams left the field for a brief break from the scorching heat.
By comparison the second period was a less eventful and more niggly affair (perhaps as a result of the heat) and much less enjoyable with Marlow almost increasing their lead in the 67th minute with Bossman again involved - this time managing to pull the ball across Strudley where Isaac Osei-Tutu cut it back but saw it scrambled off the line.
Marlow did manage to finish in style with substitute Jordace Holder-Spooner making use of his time on the pitch to run through and get his foot to a long clearance from Simon Grant and touch the ball past Strudly to then walk the ball into the unguarded net to complete an impressive victory for the Blues.
