Much-changed team win through in BigFreeBet challenge cup
Bell sounds victory with 2 goal haul.
Two goals from Junaid Bell
(his first for the club) plus one each from Kamaron English and Marcus Mealing
saw the Blues advance in the BigFreeBet challenge cup at the expense of Aylesbury United at Oak Tree Road.
Manager Mark Bartley took the opportunity to give some players whose opportunities of late have been somewhat limited a run-out and fielded a couple of very recent recruits too to soo how they might fit in, and it was therefore a rather unusual line-up for the home supporters to see taking to the pitch.
You probably would not have guessed that though as from the off the Blues took up the challenge and deservedly took the lead with a thunderbolt from Kamaron English opening the scoring in the 13th minute. They continued to pressure the visitors and having struck the frame of the goal a couple of times should have gone in at the break with the game probably won but as it was a uncustomary clanger from keeper Oneal Garnes
allowed a free kick to squirm through his hand with just a couple of minutes of the half remaining and so it proved to be all square at the break.
Worse was to come as within 2 minutes of the restart the Ducks took the lead when Reece Cameron took advantage of some slack marking to squeeze a low shot in at the near post and thus gave the game a very false score-line considering what had been seen on the pitch. Marlow though keep pressing and finding the woodwork keeping them out on another couple of occasions before Junaid Bell
come to the fore and struck an equaliser in the 78th minute - his first goal for Marlow. His second did not take too much longer to arrive as he found the net once more just 5 minutes later to put the Blues ahead once more.
A potential setback occurred in the 87th minute when a lunge from Jay Welch
in midfield ended with him receiving a red card and leaving the Blues to play through the remaining time a man short but even this did not deter them as Marcus Mealing
added a 4th goal in the 90th minute to complete the scoring and put the Blues through to the next round.
