From Behind Both Goals

21st April 2012

Here we are at the last home game of the season - and what a season it has been with only 3 home wins in the League, but that is now all in the past and we wait to see in which League Marlow will play next season.   Mr Grouser understands that it will be mid-June before we definitely know and mid-July before we know the fixtures for next season.   Our few regular supporters have certainly not lost heart with the new Marlow Football Club General Committee raising some much needed funds on a regular basis.   Thanks are due to Den for keeping us all under control and upgrading the fare in the Boardroom, to Phil who has regularly sold Golden Goal tickets, and to Ann  who has persuaded many to purchase raffle tickets each Saturday home game.   Our Hon Treasurer, Dave has kept the books in his own inimitable style and made sure that Marlow Football Club Limited gets regular payments from the General Committee - the General Committee will wait for next season`s fixtures before arranging further fund raising events.     The last fund raising event of this season was last Saturday`s quiz night which was organized and run by Tony Dormer - the famous "Brians" lost their title but did come second - thanks to Tony for his questions.

On a personal note Mr Grouser would like to thank all those at the Club who have helped him forget his advancing years over the past season - many of the Referees, Linesmen, and visiting goalkeepers have reason to remember his comments.   Thanks to Carol for providing the tasty Cottage Pie, the bar staff for making sure his glass is full, and all those many people who put in so many hours for the Club.

Last Saturday we had some German visitors who had seen our Grandstand on the Club`s website - they took many photos and wereso impressed with the Club` history - we get many comments like that, and it is very good to hear.   During the close season we will be making the arrangements for the special game between Englandfans f.c. and Marlow F.C. to commemorate the first England captain, Cuthbert Ottaway - the game will be played at Riley Park the scene of his appearances for Marlow - look out for further details.

This afternoon we welcome Barton Rovers for this League game - Mr Grouser`s cork has not been out for some time - let`s hope it does today.
